Helen Skovira
Sunday, September 6, 2026
Helen Skovira, formerly of Larksville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2026 at the age of 91.

Born in Larksville on November 11, 1934, she was the daughter of Mary (Matovchak) Roditus and Thomas A. Roditus. Helen attended St. Vincent’s High School and graduated from the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital (WBGH) School of Nursing. She worked for over 40 years as an OB/GYN Nurse at WBGH, and continued her career working as an office nurse for Dr. Peter Andrews Jr. until she retired.

After graduation from nursing school, Helen met the love of her life, Stephen Skovira, who she was married to for over 50 years, and with whom she raised three sons: Stephen, Richard and Michael. Nothing meant more to Helen than her family and she was a loving, caring wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt and friend.

She was an avid cook and baker, and won many contests with her culinary skills, including her winning the 1st Annual Pennsylvania Veal Cookoff in 1987. If you knew Helen, you’ve probably enjoyed some of her famous nut roll and other ‘goodies’.

Helen was a member of All Saints Parish in Plymouth, and participated in many community organizations, including the Friendship Club of St. Mary’s, Trinity House, the Nanticoke Senior Center, the WBGH Alumnae Association, and a local Pinochle Club.

Helen was predeceased by her husband, Stephen, her son and daughter-in-law Stephen and Anne, her son Richard, her grandson RJ and her brothers and sisters-in-law Joseph and Laura Roditus, and Thomas and Rosalie Roditus. She was also predeceased by her faithful companions Buddy and Ollie.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jill Skovira of Chester Springs, PA, her grandchildren Lauren, Amy (Peter), Trinity, Ryleigh, Kaylie and Ryan (Heather), and several great-grandchildren, nieces and extended family.

Helen will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched, especially by her loving grandchildren whom she cherished the most.

Funeral will be held on Friday, September 11, at 10 a.m. from the S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 West Main Street, Plymouth, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at the All Saints Parish, 66 Willow Street, Plymouth.
