Joseph S. Kotch (Joe, Sonny) passed away on August 29, 2025, at home with his daughters. He was a hard working, generous, creative, and responsible man who would help anyone build or fix anything. He was a loving, devoted, and protective husband and father.
He was the son of the late Joseph and Helen (Chesnulevich) Kotch. He graduated from Hanover Area High School and joined the Air Force. Once discharged, he worked at Barry Optical, Mary MacIntosh, and then became a partner at Wyoming Valley Fasteners and Tools. He retired after owning and operating Diversified Products.
He was a member of Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church. He was an avid and accomplished golfer. While enjoying this sport, which began in high school, he formed many lasting friendships. He also enjoyed bowling and woodworking. In addition, he used his self taught computer skills to personalize memory filled gifts. Many of his creations, made with love, can be found in the homes of family and friends. He spent much time whistling while working in his garden, garage, on projects around the house for himself or for others, or relaxing on his porch swing. For his wife, he was a Mr. Fix-It for church yard sale items and a photographer for her nursing alumni gatherings.
He and Anne, along with family and friends enjoyed traveling. As a sports fan, Joseph’s favorite teams were the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies and the Penn State Nittany Lions.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Anne, who passed on June 28, 2025, his parents, sister, brother, sister-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.
He will be terribly missed by his daughters, Joanne Beemiller (Jeff) and Linda Carey (Bob), nieces and their husbands, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, friends, his caregiver Tandem, and his little buddy Cali.
The family would like to thank Traditional Hospice, Bayada Home Health, and all of his doctors, therapists, and nurses.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Sept 5, at Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church, 420 Main Road, Hanover Township, at 10 a.m. for Joseph, with special remembrance and prayers for his beloved wife, Anne, who recently passed away. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Mausoleum, Hanover Township.
Friends and family may call at 9 a.m. until mass time at the church.
Arrangements are entrusted to the S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, Plymouth.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church or Traditional Hospice, Dunmore, 570-207-9286.
