Anita Narcum Huda, age 76, of Hanover Township, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on January 24, 1949, in Plymouth, Anita was the daughter of the late Leonard Narcum Sr. and Julia Bednarski Narcum. Her life's love story began in a most unique way — she and her future husband, John, were born just two days apart and were nursery roommates at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre. They were reunited in 1962 as students at Ben Franklin Jr. High School in Newtown. On April 10, 1965, they began their lifelong journey together, or as it was called then, they started "going steady." The two married on July 5, 1969, and shared an inseparable bond for over 56 years.
A lifelong resident of Hanover Township, Anita was a proud graduate of Hanover High School, Class of 1966, Wilkes-Barre Business College, Class of 1967, and later the Wilkes-Barre Vocational Technical School of Nursing, Class of 1994. She was a devoted member of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish (St. Aloysius Church), Lee Park.
Anita began her career with Penn Millers Insurance Company before pausing her professional life to raise her family. She later took on the role of school secretary at St. Aloysius School, where she became deeply involved in parish and school events, including the beloved annual parish bazaars. Inspired to serve others in a new way, Anita pursued nursing, a vocation through which she worked in various doctors’ offices and home health agencies throughout the Wyoming Valley until her retirement.
Anita was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends. She especially treasured family cruises—Bermuda being her favorite destination—and trips to the casino. A talented cook, she poured love into every dish, and the holidays were a particularly special time for her, filled with joy, tradition, and togetherness.
She is survived by her beloved husband, John W. Huda; daughters, Amy Jennings (LeRoy), of Dallas, PA, and Jess Huda (Jen Daily), of Morris Plains, NJ; grandchildren, John “J.D.” Jennings, Aidan Jennings, and Ben Daily; siblings, Leonard Narcum Jr. (Kathy), of Hanover Twp.; twins, Ruth Daron (Craig), of Shavertown, and Bob Narcum (Criss), of Russellville, Arkansas; and Mary Kolessar (David), of Dallas. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Jean Behm (Bill), of Mountaintop; many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Jill Cunningham, Anita’s devoted caregiver, for her compassion, kindness, and dedicated care over the past five years.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 10, at 10 a.m. at St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, Wilkes Barre. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, July 10, from 9 a.m. until mass time at St. Robert Bellarmine Parish.
Arrangements are entrusted S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, Plymouth.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
