James “Chip” E. Apolinaro, age 91, of Larksville, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 19, 2024 at Allied Hospice Meade Street, Wilkes Barre.
Born June 19, 1933 in Luzerne, he was the son of the late Joseph Apolinaro and Mildred Damiano Apolinaro. Chip was a graduate of Luzerne High School and a member of All Saints Parish, Plymouth.
Chip was a veteran serving with the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Larksville American Legion, Post 655.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Golden Technologies and prior to that he was employed by Nelson Furniture, Kingston, as an upholsterer, for many years.
Chip was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Notre Dame Football fan. He enjoyed tending to his garden. Chip had a great love for music and especially loved listening to Magic 93 on his favorite radio. Chip loved his many visits from the loving and caring volunteers of Meals on Wheels, Church of Christ Uniting, Kingston.
Chip’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved getting together with everyone for the holidays and family gatherings.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary Edna Yurko, who passed away on May 12, 2016; and sister, Grace McCue.
Surviving are his loving children, Denise Johnson (Harry), of Courtdale, James Apolinaro Jr. (Brigid), of Wilkes Barre, and Toni Chalker (Ernest), of Plains; grandchildren, Matthew Johnson (Renae), Kyle Johnson (Alyssa), Katie Homschek (Keith), Lauren Apolinaro, Emily Apolinaro, Madison Chalker and Lindsay Chalker; great grandchildren, Gatlin Johnson, Oliver Homschek and Benjamin Johnson; brother, Carl Apolinaro (Maureen); and several nieces and nephews
Funeral will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 West Main Street, Plymouth. Interment will follow in the Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Friday morning from 9:30 a.m until funeral time at the S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, Plymouth.
In lieu of flowers, contributions, if desired, may be made in Chip’s memory to Meals on Wheels, Church of Christ Uniting, 190 S. Sprague Avenue, Kingston, Pa 18704.
